ERBIUM DOPED FIBER
AMPLIFIER

About

Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) is a type of optical amplifier that enhances the strength of optical signals in fiber optic communication systems without converting them to electrical signals. EDFA uses a fiber doped with the rare-earth element erbium and is pumped with laser light, typically at 980 nm or 1480 nm, to amplify signals in the 1550 nm wavelength range — which coincides with the low-loss window of standard single-mode optical fiber. It is a vital component in long-distance and high-speed optical networks.

  • ✅ Optical signal amplification without electrical conversion

  • ✅ Operates in the C-band and L-band ranges (1530–1610 nm)

  • ✅ High gain and low noise figure

  • ✅ Fast transient response

  • ✅ Suitable for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems
